Abstract

Hybrid working has recently become an increasingly important reality in the work market. Along with its numerous advantages and possibilities, however, the phenomenon brings with it several risks related to the inefficiency of digital tools in bridging the gap between the physical workspace and the home workspace: it’s not uncommon for hybrid workers to experience problems such as overtasking, zoom fatigue and digital illness. Knocknock aims to improve communication and collaboration between colleagues during remote working, allowing them to contact each other in a natural, immediate and pleasant way, bringing the experience closer to that of a physical workspace.

Context and problems

Knocknock targets all companies that adopt hybrid working for their employees in their daily workflow, focusing in particular on the needs of workers belonging to the new, hyper-digitalised generations.

This group of users is in fact more exposed to a series of problems related to the distance from the physical working context such as an office, finding themselves in their first work experience in a strongly hybrid environment.

Among the most significant problems are the so-called zoom fatigue, i.e. fatigue resulting from prolonged communication via video calling softwares, overtasking, i.e. the tendency to take on more work than would be assigned in the presence of the user (with important psychological consequences) and the onset of greater technical problems due to the constant use of digital tools.

The solutions currently available for the above-mentioned problems and adopted by the actions are generally summarised in additional digital tools, new software support services, new programmes that further encroach on the desktop workspace of remote workers, full of options but actually isolated.

The Big Idea

Knocknock's role is to shorten the distance between the home and office working environment, allowing young remote workers to maintain natural, professional and human contact with their colleagues.
With knocknock, the workflow becomes more stimulating, more natural and less focused on desktop software, allowing young workers to get the most out of their work experience even from home.
